How to Install Better Voices on Your Device

This app uses your device's built-in text-to-speech voices. Installing a high-quality voice for your target language makes a significant difference to pronunciation accuracy and listening comprehension.

Note: Voice availability varies by device and operating system version. If you cannot find a voice for a specific language or dialect (e.g. Swiss German), the app will automatically fall back to the closest available voice (e.g. standard German). Installing any voice for the target language is better than using no voice at all.

How to Set Your Default Microphone

For the best speech recognition results, use a good-quality microphone and make sure it is set as your system default.

Note: The browser always uses the system default microphone unless you grant permission to a specific device. If you have multiple microphones connected, make sure to set the correct one as default in your system settings. In the lesson page, you can also select a specific microphone from the device dropdown (desktop browsers only).
